The 3 resources every screenwriter has to know

1. The one for your soul.

The Artist’s way, by Julia Cameron.

I don’t think I would have been a professional writer unless I had read this book. You know what,  calling The artist’s way ‘a book’ is selling short.  It is very much a 12 weeks course, that will transform you.  It is therapy in a book and it’s the best gift you can give yourself.

2. The one to keep you grounded.

The Scriptnotes podcast

Screenwriters John August and Craig Mazin discuss pretty much anything a screenwriter needs to know. From the craft itself to ‘how not to get fat’. Super funny and intelligent, it’s a film school you can attend when you commute or do your dishes.

Oh, and it’s free.

3. The one with all the basics.

Story“, by Robert Mckee. (Book or live seminar).

There are plenty of screenwriting books out there, but “Story” lays out for you the crucial basics of the trade. It will help you find clarity and useful principles of storytelling. Substance, Structure, Style, and the Principles of Screenwriting in the most comprehensive, integrated explanation of the craft of writing for the page, stage, and screen.
